The term "MSDS" stands for Material Safety Data Sheet, which was the predecessor of the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format. While the MSDS format was widely used in the past, the SDS format has now been globally adopted. The number of sections in an MSDS can vary, as there was no standardized format like the current 16-section SDS.

However, it is worth noting that many MSDSs followed a similar structure to the current SDSs, containing information such as product identification, hazard identification, composition, first aid measures, handling and storage, exposure controls, physical and chemical properties, and more. The MSDSs typically included sections that covered the essential information needed for safe handling, storage, and use of a chemical or product.

With the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), which standardized the format of safety data sheets worldwide, the MSDS format has been phased out. The SDS, with its 16 standardized sections, is now the globally accepted format for providing comprehensive hazard and safety information about chemicals and products.
