What are the Signs of Heat Stroke?

Here are five signs of heat stroke that may be observed:

  1. High body temperature: Heat stroke is characterized by a significantly elevated body temperature of 104°F (40°C) or higher. The body's ability to regulate temperature is overwhelmed.
  2. Hot, flushed skin: The skin may feel hot to the touch and appear flushed or red. Sweating may be absent or minimal, as the body's ability to cool down through sweating is impaired.
  3. Altered mental state or behavior: Heat stroke can cause confusion, disorientation, agitation, irritability, or even delirium. The affected person may have difficulty concentrating or speaking coherently.
  4. Rapid heartbeat and breathing: The heart rate may be rapid and the breathing may become fast and shallow as the body tries to cope with the heat stress.
  5. Headache and dizziness: A severe headache can be a symptom of heat stroke, often accompanied by dizziness or lightheadedness.

It is important to note that heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call emergency services immediately and take immediate steps to cool the person down by moving them to a cooler area, removing excess clothing, and applying cool water or wet towels to their body.
