VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS FOR CARS, 4WD LIGHTS, AND TRUCKS

The safety general requirements for all road vehicles:

·       Light vehicles and trucks shall comply with the country's design and traffic regulations and shall be suitable for operation in the local climate area.

·       Light vehicles and trucks shall be insured, registered, and licensed following the country's traffic regulations and laws.

·       Light vehicles shall be of adequate capacity and of a design suitable for the work for which they are allocated, vehicles shall not carry more passengers than the number of seats and shall not carry cargo inside the passenger compartment in the vehicles.

·       Ensure Passengers shall not be seated in the light vehicles in seats without the appropriate seatbelts and headrests of vehicles.

·       Vehicles are traveling to or operating within areas under the protection of critical infrastructure areas.

·       Ensure no structural modification can be made to the vehicle without the manufacturers’ approval, except for modifications done for off-road operations as per country standards.

·       Vehicles shall be replaced after being in use for a maximum period of 5 years as per country standards if required. The replace the vehicle before 5 years if it is deemed that the vehicle is due for replacement for safety purposes maintained.

·       Vehicle tires used shall be fit and properly fixed, the intended road to be traveled, and shall be suitable to the make of the vehicle and its manufacturer’s recommendations. It shall be inflated according to the manufacturer’s specifications and shall be rotated and balanced as needed as per country standards and safety purposes.

·       As per the standards minimum, tires tread depth shall be 2.4mm for light vehicles and 3.2mm for trucks and buses as per the safety requirements.

·       The vehicle's windows shall be kept clear from stickers or any objects that may obstruct driver visibility and clarity.

PRIVATE VEHICLES

Light Vehicle (LV) Work-related trips shall comply with Journey Management Plan requirements and go through the mandated approval process not allowed to enter operational area boundaries, particularly only be used on paved roads, and not for off-road travel such as on mountain roads, uneven roads, desert road and long route carrying only small quantities of tools and materials, which shall be separated in a secure cargo compartment of adequate strength to contain the load in case of an incident or vehicle accident. Cargo areas shall not be fitted with seats to accommodate additional passengers in the vehicles.

4WD LIGHT VEHICLES

Vehicles in this category include 4-wheel drive rough terrain vehicles. All 4-wheel drive sedans, hatchbacks.

In addition to requirements of 4-wheel vehicles:

Ensure not carry more passengers than the number of seats of vehicles.

Ensure not to carry cargo inside the passenger compartment and vice versa. Ensure cargo space shall be physically separated from the passenger area by a solid partition, such as a mesh grid, that does not compromise the visibility out of the rear of the vehicle.

Tires shall be used within 5 years of their manufacture tire company date. Repaired or Re-treaded tires are not allowed.

Off-road conditions, shall be fitted with:

·       Ensure approved Roll-Over Protection Structure (ROPS).

·       Ensure seat belts with inertia reel, neck & head restraints.

·       Non-conductive flexible flagpole a minimum of five meters high to improve visibility clear.

The vehicle types of equipment shall be equipped in the vehicles:

·       First aid kit

·       High visibility vests

·       Fire extinguisher

·       Log drive survival kit

·       Spare tires of the same make and brand as supplied by the manufacturer of tires.

·       Basic repair equipment in case of a breakdown of vehicles

·       Seat belt cutters

·       Glass breakers of vehicles

·       Road safety cones

TRUCKS SAFETY

Trucks vehicles that fall into this category include all pickup trucks, light trucks, and heavy trucks including Kenworth Heavy Duty Trucks for carrying loads. It is depending on the weight of the truck, it may fall under the Light Vehicle or Heavy Vehicle category. The especially pickup trucks are considered light vehicles, with light and heavy trucks being heavy vehicles.

Addition to requirements in the trucks:

The trucks only are used on paved roads, and not for off-road travel such as on uneven roads, maintained roads, and deserts unless they meet the standards of an off-road vehicle.

Ensure not to carry more passengers than the number of seats in the trucks.

Ensure not to carry cargo or tow a trailer over the recommended loads specified by the vehicle manufacturer in the vehicle safety handbook.

The front of the cargo truck's compartment shall be fitted with a protective steel barrier mesh of adequate strength to protect passengers from cargo shifting during traveling. In addition, lashing points and loose load securing equipment shall be of adequate quantity and strength to secure loads up to the maximum capacity of the trucks.

The truck's vehicle equipment shall be available in the trucks:

·       First aid kit

·       High visibility vests

·       Fire extinguisher

·       Basic repair equipment in case of a breakdown

·       Seat belt cutters

·       Glass breakers.

The truck's vehicle shall be equipped with a reversing alarm system and under-run protection for both side and rear, as applicable.

All heavy vehicles shall have reflective markings on both sides and the rear.

All heavy vehicles shall undergo a yearly detailed vehicle safety inspection to ensure the vehicle meets the established minimum safety standards.

The requirements set above, heavy trucks such as Kenworth Heavy Duty Trucks shall have the following specifications, where applicable:

Fuel lines of trucks are not pinched or can potentially be damaged when installed between body and frame.

Fuel lines of trucks are routed and secured without dips or sags.

The truck's fuel tank vent is not obstructed.

The truck's fuel tank is located so that the full level is not above the cylinder head.

The body of the truck's installation of the fuel tank or routing of lines shall not cause a significant increase in fuel temperature.

The air intake screen shall not be blocked, either fully or partially blocked.

Air supply to the engine of the truck shall not be restricted or disconnected

The truck's airlines shall be routed, protected from heat, and properly secured to prevent damage from other components of trucks.

The trucks airlines shall not rub against other components.

The truck's air system shall be protected from heat sources.

The truck's diesel exhaust fluid and coolant lines should be routed, protected, and properly secured to prevent damage during vehicle operation.

The truck's exhaust pipes used for tailpipe stacks shall be properly sized and must prevent water from entering sources.
