QRA Quantitative Risk
Assessment: Quantitative Risk
Assessment, It is a formal and systematic approach to estimating the likelihood
and consequences of hazardous events, and expressing the results quantitatively
as a risk to people, the environment, assets, or reputation. A structured
approach to assessing the potential for incidents and expressing this potential
numerically. In QRA statistical values are derived for potential loss of life
and damage to resources and the environment. Risk is the product of the measure
of the likelihood of occurrence of an undesired event and the potential adverse
consequences which the event may have upon, the health and safety of people
fatality, injury, irreversible health impact or chronic ill health or harm to
physical or psychological health. Environment
- Water, air, soil, animals, plants and social, Reputation employees and third parties.
Qualitative OHRA:
Qualitative OHRA is a descriptive measure and relies upon the determination of
severity impact and probability of risk related to health hazards in the
workplace taking into account existing control measures.
Quantitative OHRA: Quantitative OHRA makes use of sampling and
analytical techniques to quantify the exposure concentration of the hazardous
agents to which the workers are potentially exposed, and uses data obtained to
determine the likelihood of risk to health hazards.
Radioactive Waste: Radioactive
waste is any waste containing radionuclides, a radioactive nuclide. Frequently categorized
according to activity content and other criteria as low level, intermediate
level, and high-level waste. The disposal of radioactive waste is subject to
national and international legislation.
Radon Gas: Radon
gas is an invisible, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas. It is formed by the
disintegration of radium, which is a decay product of uranium. Some amounts of
radon gas and radon daughters are present everywhere in the soil, water, and
air. Particularly high radon levels occur in regions where the soil or rock is
rich in uranium. Radon is emitted by radium in the ground, groundwater, and
building materials. It can enter the indoor air where it and its decay products
accumulate in poorly ventilated areas. Harmful levels of radon and radon daughters
can accumulate in confined air spaces, such as basements and crawl spaces.
Radon daughters are inhaled with air and deposited in the lungs. The resulting
radiation dose increases the risk of lung cancer.
Recordable Incident:
The recordable incident is an all incidents are recordable and logged in the organizations
incident recording system if it is in any way associated with the employees or
activities of organizations or a reportable contractor. The presence or absence
of fault or preventability is not relevant in determining whether or not an
incident, injury or illness is recordable.
Recycling: The
recycling is reprocessing of waste
into the same or a different product. Typical recyclable wastes include glass,
paper, plastics, etc. Methods of recycling depend on the nature of the waste
stream and whether or not sorting or treatment may be required to extract the
reusable components.
Reduction: The
reduction process of reducing the quantity of waste produced through the review
of operational practices and optimal use of raw materials.
Restricted Areas: The
restricted areas are defined based on the potential risk due to the existence
of Hydrocarbon, Toxic Gases, chemicals, electrocution, etc. The restricted
areas would be defined by each company respective to their business.
Restricted Work: The
Restricted work activity occurs when the employee, because of the work-related
injury or illness, is unable to perform all or any part of his or her normal
assignment during all or any part of the normal workday or shift. The emphasis
is on the employee’s inability to perform normal job duties over a normal work
shift. Normally assigned work means any tasks that the employee performs or is
expected to perform as part of their job. A case is not considered to be
Restricted Work if the following three conditions are: 1. there is no medical
treatment required, 2. the worker is fully capable of doing all tasks that had
been scheduled to be performed during the period, 3. there have been no
explicit restrictions placed on the worker by treating doctor.
Restricted Workday:
The restricted workday cases a work-related injury or illness other than a
fatality or lost the workday case which results in an individual being unable
to perform all normally assigned work functions during any scheduled work
shift; or being assigned to another job on a temporary or permanent basis after
the day of the injury or illness. Less than normal assigned work functions
include: Performing all duties or normally assigned work functions but at less
than full-time schedule. Performing limited duties during a normally assigned
full-time schedule.
Risk Assessment
Matrix (RAM): The risk assessment matrix is a matrix used during risk
assessment to define the various levels of risk based on its consequences and
probability of occurrence
Risk Assessment: The
risk assessment is documented
process of identifying the hazards associated with the work to be done activity
and specifying the controls required to reduce the risk to a level, As Low as
Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
Risk Reflects the
likelihood (probability): of occurring hazard eventuating and its severity
the consequence of the event. Risk is the product of the two, i.e., likelihood
x severity = risk.
Risk: The risk is
the product of the measure of the likelihood of occurrence of an undesired
event and the potential adverse consequences that the event may have on the Health
and Safety of People – Fatality, injury, irreversible health impact or chronic
ill health, or harm to physical or psychological health; Environment - Water,
air, soil, animals, plants and social; Reputation - Employees and third
parties. This includes the liabilities arising from injuries and property
damage to third parties including the cross liabilities that may arise between
the interdependent.
