SAFETY RULES FOR DRIVERS
OF VEHICLES & MOBILE MOVING MACHINERY
Safety rules have been drawn to prevent accidents
involving vehicles. The term 'Driver' used in these rules refers to the person
operating the vehicle, even if the person is doing it momentarily:
·
Over-seating in a cab is forbidden.
·
Speed limit shall not exceed as per limits.
·
It is prohibited to drive/operate in case of being over
fatigued or mentally diseased.
·
The driver/operator shall concentrate his mind without
chatting with others while driving/operating.
·
All vehicles/mobile machinery shall be parked safely, (No parking on the slope/side of a ditch, etc.).
·
It is not allowed to hand over vehicle/mobile machinery
to unauthorized persons to drive/operate.
·
A daily routine checkup of vehicle/mobile machinery
shall be conducted no less than 10 minutes before work.
·
All vehicles shall be washed and kept in clean and neat
order after completion of daily duty.
·
All vehicles shall be sent to the workshop for scheduled
maintenance. In case of an accident, the Safety Office shall be informed of the settlement rather than settle unofficially by individuals.

All company vehicles shall have seat belts. If the seat
belts were not furnished with the vehicle when purchased, they shall be
retrofitted.
·
The driver is at all times responsible for the safe operation
of his vehicle, and all movements shall be made smoothly and at a safe speed.
The specified speed limits shall not be exceeded.
·
Before starting the engine, the driver shall make sure
that the engine is not in gear.
·
Before moving the vehicle, the driver and all other
passengers shall ensure that they are wearing the safety belt. It is the
driver’s responsibility to ensure that all passengers are wearing seatbelts, as
intended, before putting the vehicle in motion.
·
Before putting the vehicle in motion, the driver shall
ensure there is nothing in his way either front or rear.
·
The driver should always travel in a position on the
vehicle to obtain the maximum vision. Under no circumstances should he travel with
his vision obscured.
·
All road signs shall be observed and in addition, the
driver shall slow down or stop when vision is obstructed and when approaching
doorways and corners.
·
Drivers must be intelligent, alert, and fit. It is
especially important that their eyesight (with or without spectacles) and
hearing be tested regularly, to ensure they are not deficient.
·
Parking brakes shall be applied before leaving the
vehicle.
·
Drivers shall ensure that hands and footwear neither are
neither wet, greasy, or in any other condition likely to impair their efficiency
at the controls of the vehicle.
·
Before reversing a vehicle, the driver shall take
particular care to ensure that there is no obstruction in his path and he shall
continue to look in the direction of movement when reversing. He should take
help from the bank's man.
·
The driver shall ensure that the vehicle is not loaded
beyond its rated capacity and that all loads are secured, and roped, if
necessary.
·
No vehicle shall be used on company or personal property
or pubic highway unless:
·
The driver owns a valid driving license.
·
The vehicle is licensed for use on the public highway
and equipped with number plates rear and front and complies with the government
road traffic requirements.
·
At beginning of each day, the driver shall check the
following items:

Fuel
ü
Water
ü
Oil (this should be maintained at maximum level).
ü
Check should be made to see that there are no loose
parts or abnormal noise.
ü
Brakes and steering (to see that these are in working
order)
ü
A tire, (to examine for cuts, flints, and incorrect tire
pressure) treads of cars & small vehicles shall not be less than 1 mm.
ü
Lights, traffic indicators, and windscreens wipers.
ü
If a vehicle has a punctured Tire, it shall not be moved
except to avoid obstruction.
·
Drivers must be particularly watchful that they are not
exceeding the floor load-bearing capacity and must avoid temporary structures
over holes, trenches, etc.
·
A moving load affects a floor, equivalent to three times
its stationary weight.
·
Vehicles emitting exhaust gases must not be used in
closed premises where there may be inadequate ventilation.
·
No vehicles shall be taken into an area where explosion
or fire risk exists, unless specifically authorized to do so, thru a work
permit.
·
Drivers should avoid making fast starts, jerky stops, or
quick turns.
· Overtaking at crossroads, corners, or other dangerous points should not be made.
·
When a load wider than the vehicle is carried, the driver
shall be accompanied by another person preferably a rigger.
·
Mobile equipment, passenger, and heavy vehicles should
be provided with a suitable fire extinguisher.
·
Rules of defensive driving should be studied and
practiced.
·
All roads at the site shall be considered of equal
ranking, so be especially alert at intersections and do not depend on another
driver for the right of way.
·
Overtaking on the site is not allowed.
·
One way traffic rules on specified roads should follow.
·
Road services & changes shall be controlled &
enhanced by traffic control signs or assign a standby man as the case may be.
·
All temporary roads/pathways shall be kept level,
maintained in a good state, and regularly sprinkled with water.
·
While reversing a large vehicle, a warning signal shall
be given on the horn. The second person shall be available to guide the driver.
·
The vehicles should have a reverse alarm installed.
·
Vehicles must not be driven into operating units without
first obtaining a vehicle entry permit from unit personnel.
·
Signal others when you stop turn or pull out from the curb.
·
Avoid making unauthorized 'U-turns.
·
The engine should not be left running unattended.
·
Persons riding in the vehicle shall not exceed the limit
prescribed by law.
·
No one is permitted to get on or off a vehicle while it
is in motion.
·
Passengers are not allowed to ride in the bed of a
truck/pickup carrying a bulky or shifting load.
·
Vehicles shall be parked in the designated areas.
·
Always, park a vehicle in reverse parking
·
Do not block fire protection equipment, emergency
vehicles, or safety equipment. Maintain a 25ft. clearance around fire hydrants
at all times. In case it is not possible to keep the said clearance, seek a waiver
from the relevant Site Area In charge.
·
Parking on access roads to office buildings &
process areas shall remain Prohibited at all times.
